FILM MAKERS HONOURED BY DODDY

Young filmmakers had their moment on the red carpet and the chance to meet comedy legend Ken Dodd at an awards ceremony for budding young filmmakers.

The veteran comedian presented the youngsters, who got to see their work on the big screen, with awards at the Showcase Cinema in Liverpool.

The young people, who have been working with NEET TV to produce short films, had their hard work recognised at the ceremony also attended by the Mayor of Knowsley Cllr Brian O’Hare, the Sheriff of Merseyside Abila Pointing and Knowsley MP George Howarth.

NEET TV, part of Knowsley Enterprise Academy, is a local Charitable Trust that produces films with young people.

Pupils aged between seven and 25 got involved with all aspects of the filmmaking from coming up with ideas, writing the script, shooting the film and editing the final product.

The films, which all received awards, ranging from Acting and Costume Design to Imagination and Vision, tackled subjects including World War I and challenging the stereotypes around disabilities.

More than 350 people attended the event including the 100 young people, who have worked together to learn filmmaking skills, and their families.

The Knotty Ash funnyman presented the Director’s Choice award given to pupils that played an exceptional role in the creation of their short film.

NEET TV was set up to challenge the issues surrounding young people who are Not in Employment, Education or Training and it aims to give young people important skills while also developing into a social enterprise providing filming for other organisations.

Sue Temple-Fielding, Project Manager of Knowsley Enterprise Academy, said: “The great thing about NEET TV is its inclusivity – our approach is more about getting a clear message across which represents the expressions of those young people involved.

“From the initial stages of writing the script, through to the editing process, the young people take ownership and we help to make their ideas become reality.”
